Hakula Sport Fishing Tonga - a fishermans kingdom

Vava'u in the Kingdom of Tonga has some of the best Sport fishing and Big Game fishing in the South Pacific

Vava'u Tonga has a reputation as the premium Sport fishing and Big Game fishing destination in the South Pacific. The waters of Vava'u Tonga are over 1000 meters deep less than a mile of shore.

After a 30 to 40 minute cruise from Hakula Lodge through the Vava'u Harbour we will be in 1000 metres of deep blue water. We catch:

Common Sport fish caught in Tongan waters

  • Blue, Black and Striped Marlin
  • Yellowfin and Skip Jack Tuna
  • Mahimahi
  • Wahoo
  • Sailfish
  • Dogtooth Tuna
  • Blue fin Trevally
  • Giant Trevally
We can leave early and travel to a seamount and work the schools of Yellowfin and Skipjack. After which we will troll home with the likelihood of picking up billfish and Mahimahi OR
fish the 3 new FAD's just off shore for billfish and Mahimahi. Official IGFA weigh station

We have our own fully equipped IGFA certified weigh station capable of lifting any billfish well over 1000lbs. With our weigh board you can snap off plenty of photos and take home memories of your trip.

Fish Aggregating Device (FAD)

In Vava'u we now have three (3) new FAD's which are situated approximately six miles offshore in 1000/1200 metres of water. The distance between varies depending on current flow and wind. The distance between the southernmost FAD and the northern FAD is approximately 18/20 miles.

These FAD's hold a variety of species, including Mahi Mahi, Yellow fin, Skipjack Tuna, Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, Spanish Mackerel, etc. On an average days fishing it is possible to visit all three FAD's.

The latest FAD deployment has been funded by the Vava'u Sports fishing club with funds raised by TIGFA and Tournaments held over the past 10/15years.
